Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Kimberly J. McWaters was appointed to Chairman of the Board in December 2013. She has served as UTI’s Chief Executive Officer since October 2003 and as a director on UTI’s Board from February 2005 through November 2013. Ms. McWaters served as UTI’s President from 2000 to March 2011 and previously served on UTI’s Board from 2002 to 2003. From 1984 to 2000, Ms. McWaters held several positions with UTI, including Vice President of Marketing and Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Ms. McWaters also serves as a director of Penske Automotive Group, Inc. (formerly United Auto Group, Inc.) Ms. McWaters received a BS in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
President and Chief Financial Officer
Eugene S. Putnam, Jr. has served as UTI's President and Chief Financial Officer since March 2011. Mr. Putnam served as UTI's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since July 2008 and he served as UTI's interim Chief Financial Officer since January 2008. From June 2005 to May 2007, Mr. Putnam served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Aegis Mortgage Corporation. From July 2003 to June 2005, Mr. Putnam served as President of Coastal Securities L.P. and from March 2001 to March 2003, Mr. Putnam served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Sterling Bancshares, Inc. Mr. Putnam also spent 14 years as Director of Investor Relations and in a various corporate finance positions with SunTrust Banks, Inc. Mr. Putnam also serves as a director of Community Bankers Trust Corporation. Mr. Putnam received his MBA from the University of North Carolina and holds a BS in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
General Counsel, Executive Vice President of Corporate Development
Chad A. Freed has served as our inside legal counsel since March 2004 and is also our Corporate Secretary. He was promoted to the position of General Counsel, Executive Vice President of Corporate Development in June 2015. Previous to that, Mr. Freed held the position of Senior Vice President, General Counsel since February 2005 and in March 2009, he assumed business development responsibilities as the General Counsel, Senior Vice President of Business Development. Prior to joining UTI, Mr. Freed was a Senior Associate in the Corporate Finance and Securities department at Bryan Cave LLP. Mr. Freed received his Juris Doctor from Tulane University, and holds a BS in International Business and French from Pennsylvania State University.
Executive Vice President, Admissions and Operations
Sherrell E. Smith returned to UTI as Senior Vice President of Operations in August 2012, and in April 2015 he assumed responsibility for Admissions. In June 2015, Mr. Smith was promoted to Executive Vice President, Admissions and Operations. Prior to his departure from UTI in 2009, Sherrell was with UTI for 23 years. During his previous tenure with the company, Mr. Smith contributed to the organization in many leadership roles: Campus President, Regional Vice President of Operations and Executive Vice President and Executive Vice President of Operations. After his departure from UTI, Mr. Smith had been advising a private equity firm on acquisition opportunities in the education field as well as served as the Chief Executive Officer of American Institute of Technology. Mr. Smith received his BS in Management from Arizona State University.
Senior Vice President, Customer Solutions
Charles (Chuck) Barresi, formerly Regional Vice President of Operations, was promoted to Senior Vice President, Customer Solutions. Mr. Barresi joined the company in 2010 as President of UTI’s Norwood campus and, in 2012, was promoted to Regional Vice President of Operations for the East, where his responsibilities included oversight for NASCAR Technology Institute and the Norwood and Orlando campuses. Prior to joining UTI, Barresi was Vice President of Sales for SIE Computing Solutions, where he led the profitable revenue growth and managed the sales team for a $30M electronic packaging company. He held several leadership positions at GSI Lumonics including Vice President and General Manager for their Components Product Group. Mr. Barresi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from William Patterson University and a certificate in The General Managers Program from Harvard University.
Sr. Vice President of Marketing
Jeff May was named Senior Vice President of Marketing in September 2014. Mr. May served as Vice President Integrated Marketing & Analytics from September 2013 to September 2014 and he served as Vice President Marketing Operations & Analytics from October 2012 to September 2013. Prior to joining the marketing team Mr. May served as Vice President Student Experience & Operational Excellence from March 2009 to October 2012, where he led Financial Aid, Student Services and Employment Services functions. Prior to joining UTI, Mr. May served as First Vice President Capital Markets from 2005 to 2009 at Washington Mutual, and served as Vice President and Senior Finance Manager from 2002 to 2004 at Washington Mutual. Mr. May holds a BS in Economics from the University of Arizona.
Senior Vice President, Information Technology
Bryce H. Peterson has served as our Senior Vice President of Information Technology since June 2012. Mr. Peterson served as Vice President of Information Technology from March 2011 to June 2012, as Vice President of Internal Audit Services from March 2010 to March 2011 and as Information Technology Audit Manager from October 2008 to February 2010. Prior to joining UTI, Mr. Peterson served in a variety of positions at KPMG, LLP, Brigham Young University, and Fenton Enterprises. Mr. Peterson received his MS in Information Systems Management and holds a BS in Business Management from Brigham Young University.
Senior Vice President, People Services
Rhonda R. Turner has served as our Senior Vice President of People Services (Human Resources) since June 2010. From January 2006 to December 2007, Ms. Turner served as Director, People Services Partnerships, from January 2008 to July 2009 she served as Vice President of People Services Partnerships & Training and from August 2009 to May 2010 she served as Vice President of People Services. Prior to joining UTI, Ms. Turner served in human resources leadership positions at ConocoPhillips, Circle K and Main Street Restaurant Group, Inc., a TGI Friday’s franchisee. Ms. Turner received her BS in Human Resources Management from Arizona State University.
